M48 Severn Bridge closed in both directions due to high winds - updates

Strong winds have shut the M48 Severn Bridge in Gloucestershire. The route is currently closed in both directions between J1 (Aust) and J2 (Chepstow).

Motorists are being advised to use the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge instead, which is fully open to all traffic. National Highways said the bridge will be reopened when wind speeds drop to a safe level.

"Our South West Regional Operations Centre are monitoring the wind speeds and will reopen the road as soon as wind speeds reduce to a safe level. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
