Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana disagrees with 'arrogant' Virgil van Dijk dig

Manchester United's goalkeeper Andre Onana insisted his team went to Anfield in search of a win after the goalless draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

The comments appear to be in complete contrast to Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk's post-match verdict after the Dutchman had claimed "there was only one team trying to win the game". Van Dijk's comments sparked a furious response from United legend Roy Keane, who accused the Liverpool defender of being 'arrogant'.

After the final whistle to Sunday's Premier League encounter, Van Dijk told Sky Sports: "If you see how we played the game, we had most of the ball and created some opportunities. There was only one team trying to win the game."

Van Dijk also expressed his frustration: "We want to win every game of course and that is why it is frustrating. Sometimes we shot too easy and could have passed on the overlap. The right decision was sometimes lacking. We carry on of course but it is frustrating because we were superior in all aspects."

He added: "In the end they are buzzing with a point and we are disappointed with a point. Obviously they are not in the best phase. Coming here you are wary of the threat we have. We should have won it today. We have to learn from certain situations and I know we will."

Speaking to beIN Sports, he said: "Not bad, it could be better because we came here to win," and "We are Manchester United."
