Police discover £125k in cash in Range Rover boot at M6 services... the driver 'couldn't explain why it was there'

A driver said he couldn't explain why police discovered £125,000 in cash inside the boot of their car, according to police.

The black Range Rover was stopped by officers on behalf of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) at a service station on the M6 motorway yesterday afternoon (February 9).

Police searched the vehicle which stopped at Sandbach Services, and a huge sum of cash was found inside, Cheshire Live reports.

The money has since been seized.

No arrests were made at the scene and the cash has been passed on to HMRC.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At around 3.50pm on Wednesday, February 9 officers stopped a black Range Rover at the M6 Sandbach Services on behalf of HMRC.

"No arrests were made but a large quantity of cash was seized from the vehicle which has been passed to HMRC."

Referring to the incident in a post on social media last night, North West Motorway Police said: "Our Cheshire Roads Crime Unit Patrols stopped a vehicle earlier at Sandbach Services.

A HMRC spokesperson said: "We don’t comment on ongoing activity."
