Police descend on Gay Village and arrest 'bleeding' man after 'throwing glasses inside bar'

Police descended on Manchester's Gay Village on Wednesday evening (July 17) following reports of a man 'throwing glasses' at a popular bar.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police were seen parked up along Chorlton Street after being called to a 'disturbance' at a bar along Canal Street.

Witnesses reported seeing a 'bleeding' man and that 'glasses were smashed' at one of the venues. A man was later seen being hauled into the back of a police van at the scene.

Pictures taken from the scene on Wednesday night showed a number of police vehicles in attendance, parked outside the Leven Hotel nearby.

It follows reports of glasses and bottles being 'thrown' and 'smashed' by the disruptive male earlier in the evening. A witness told the Manchester Evening News there were three police cars and a van at the scene and that police were seen speaking to members of the public outside.

It's understood a man, whose age has not been confirmed, was later arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and has been taken into custody. It is not thought any other injuries were reported.
