Police cordon off road outside supermarket after reports of pedestrian hit by vehicle - live updates

Police have cordoned off a road outside a supermarket in Middleton following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle earlier today (August 9).

Officers blocked off Wood Street, in Middleton, outside the Aldi supermarket earlier this afternoon with officers remaining at the scene and a large cordon in place following the collision.

There was also reportedly an air ambulance at the scene earlier today, as well as paramedics. It is understood the person involved was taken to hospital from the scene.

Pictures from the scene show a number of officers standing beside the cordon, with others taking pictures of the scene amid ongoing investigations.

An eyewitness who passed the scene after the collision earlier today reported that they saw a 'man lying in the road'.

The Manchester Evening News understands it was a male pedestrian hit by a vehicle earlier this afternoon who was taken to hospital from the scene.

A witness, who drove past the incident earlier today said they noticed the huge emergency services presence on Wood Street.

"I just noticed the huge police presence and all the roads around it blocked off," they told us tonight.

"There were traffic police in the road wearing white hats as I was driving past."

A local resident who lives closeby saw an air ambulance circling the area after the reported collision this evening.
