House taped off with 'smashed windows' after 'explosion' in Bury

A house was taped off with 'smashed windows' following an 'explosion' in Bury on Monday night (August 14). Emergency services were called to reports of a house fire on Parkhills Road, shortly before 8.30pm.

A terraced house was cordoned off with police and fire crews remaining at the scene for a number of hours amid ongoing investigations as residents watched on. Windows had been smashed at the home and were left 'charred' following the incident.

Local councillor Tamoor Tariq said he believed the incident was 'targeted' with a 'small explosion' before emergency crews arrived. Further details about what caused the blaze have not yet been confirmed by police.

Two fire engines and two police cars remained stationed at the scene on Monday night after the blaze had been put out.

In a public post, Coun Tariq said: "I’m saddened to report there has been yet again another unfortunate incident in our neighbourhood. A house was targeted on Parkhills Road with a small explosion. Please allow extra time to travel between Heywood street and Parkhills Road. Prayers with those affected at this sad time."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 8.30pm this evening (Monday 14th August), three fire engines from Heywood, Whitefield and Bury central fire station were called to reports of a fire involving a property on Parkhills Road, Bury.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire. Firefighters have been in attendance for around two hours and are still currently at the scene.”
