Police catching driver waiting on hard shoulder to dodge Manchester Airport parking charges

A driver who tried to avoid paying for parking at Manchester Airport by waiting on the hard shoulder instead was reported for traffic offences. The motorist parked up at the side of the motorway while waiting to collect arrivals, but instead ended up being issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) .

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Another driver spoken to & issued a TOR for waiting on the H/S near Manchester airport. The hard shoulder is not a safe place to be waiting for those coming off flights & when caught it is much more expensive than the airport charges!"

Earlier this month motorway cops found a man sleeping in his car on the hard shoulder as he waited to collect a friend from Manchester Airport. Greater Manchester Police tweeted a picture of the driver having kip behind the wheel.

They added the caption: "If you’re picking someone up from Manchester Airport, go to the allocated parking areas. Don’t do what this driver did!

"He thought it was acceptable to park up on the hard shoulder, wait for his friend… and go to sleep!! Driver woken up and reported."
