New play area opens at Manchester Airport's Runway Visitor Park

Manchester Airport's Runway Visitor Park has been given an upgrade and families are loving it.

The park has always been a popular attraction with families as children can get a close look at the planes and watch them take off and land. Previously there was a small climbing frame and a net swing, but not much else to keep the little ones occupied.

But now a new plane-shaped climbing frame has landed, along with some new swings, and families can't get enough of it.

Hundreds have commented on a photo of the new playground on the Runway Visitor Park Facebook page, welcoming the new addition, which is similar to one installed at the nearby Airport Pub.

"Visited yesterday. It’s great. More swings too," said one. "I'm scared if I take my son we might never come home," said another.

For those wanting to a day of it, the park's Concorde Coffee House has got a good selection of snacks and meals, or there are picnic tables dotted around for people wanting to take their own food and drink along.

The Altrincham visitor park has viewing mounds to raise people up for a better view of the planes. While some have steps to get up there's a large one with a ramp to make it easier for those with pushchairs and wheelchairs to access.

It is also home to a variety of retired planes, including the spectacular supersonic airliner, Concorde G-BOAC; and former RAF military spy plane, Nimrod.

The children's playground is available to use daily from 8am to 8pm. Car parking costs £5 for up to two hours, £10 for two to four hours, or £12 for all stays over four hours. Visit the website here for more details.
