Traffic chaos near Manchester Airport after A555 tanker crash sees two cut free

Traffic around Manchester Airport was reportedly in chaos this afternoon following a tanker crash. Photos from the scene show a tanker lorry colliding with a car on the A555.

The collision on the westbound side of the A555 Ringway Road happened just after 12pm, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said. Traffic was able to get through in the incident, but caused tailbacks, Transport for Greater Manchester added.

Now, it has been confirmed that two people were cut free from the vehicles. Two fire crews were involved in the rescue effort.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 12.12pm on 16 June, firefighters attended a road traffic collision on Ring Road West, Manchester.

“Two fire engines, one from Crewe and one from Ashton-Under-Lyne, attended the scene where a heavy goods vehicle and a car had collided. Firefighters used cutting and stabilisation equipment to release two casualties from the vehicle.”

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service added the occupants suffered ‘minor injuries’. They added that they did not take anyone to hospital.

Photos from the scene show a hatchback car next to the tanker, raised slightly off the ground.
