Horror as pedestrian seriously injured after being 'driven at' by car in middle of road

A pedestrian was found with serious injuries in the middle of a road in Hyde after being driven at. Police and paramedics were called to Lumn Road at around 11.30pm on Sunday (August 4).

Police had initially been called to the scene following reports of thieves at an address. Officers were also informed there was an injured man in the road.

Enquiries have revealed the victim, aged in his 20s, was driven at whilst on the street. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where he remains for treatment.

Greater Manchester Police said officers had also received reports of men 'wearing balaclavas with shovels' in the street. A scene remained in place overnight and throughout Sunday amid investigations into the incident. Anyone who witnessed what happened is being urged to contact the police.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 11.30pm on Sunday 4 August 2024 to reports of an injured male on Lumn Road in Hyde, Tameside. We attended the address and found a man in his 20s in the road with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains.

"The victim was driven at whilst on the street and officers received reports of males wearing balaclavas with shovels in the street. Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident to come forward."
