Police arrest five on suspicion of kidnap after man bundled into the rear of car in broad daylight

Police are appealing for witnesses after a broad daylight kidnapping near Bury town centre.

The drama happened at about 1.11pm on Tottington Road on Wednesday when a white Volkswagen Golf pulled up beside a premises. Two men jumped out of the car and then bundled a third man into the vehicle before driving off with a rear passenger door still open, according to Greater Manchester Police.

Today (Thursday) GMP appealed for any witnesses to the 'terrifying ordeal' to come forward. Five people have been arrested on suspicion of kidnap.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the town.

"While this is a terrifying ordeal, we would like to reassure the community that this is very much an isolated incident and we are dedicated to keeping residents safe. We have put extra officers on the streets and they will be happy to discuss any concerns you may have.

"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or was around the area at the time to come forward and assist with enquiries, as their information could greatly assist our investigation.

"If there is anyone in the area with doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage, I would also please ask them to contact us.”
