'Police all over' Middleton shopping centre as emergency services rush to 'incident in toilets'

Police swarmed Middleton on Tuesday evening (August 6) amid reports of an incident in the toilets of a shopping precinct.

Paramedics and forensics attended the scene, inside Middleton Shopping Centre, thought to have occurred in the toilets at around 5pm. Reports the incident was a stabbing have not been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

Witnesses reported seeing a man being taken away from the scene in an ambulance after the reports of the knife attack. Pictures from the scene on Tuesday night showed a number of police vehicles in attendance, along with Crime Scene Investigators who were conducting enquiries.

Earlier in the afternoon, other police vehicles and an ambulance were seen parked near Middleton Gardens. There was speculation the incidents happened in the bathrooms.

The shopping centre later announced toilets were 'out of service' throughout the evening, but it is unclear whether this was connected.

One witness said there were 'police all over' on social media as another said a man was 'rushed on a stretcher into a waiting ambulance' outside the Edgar Wood pub.

Another posted: "I was passing just as a second ambulance arrived with its lights flashing and the paramedics were rushing him out on a stretcher. Scary scary world we’re living in at the moment."

Greater Manchester Police have not yet confirmed the nature of the incident but have been approached by the Manchester Evening News.
