PICS | Sundowns fans at it again! Stops Al Ahly bus ahead of CAF clash

Mamelodi Sundowns fans stopped the Al Ahly team bus ahead of the CAF Champions League encounter at FNB Stadium.

Last year, Sundowns fans took severe measures to distract Al Ahly in attacking the bus in Attridgeville.

They also insulted former Downs coach Pitso Mosimane, who was not impressed with the Yellow Nation.

Ahead of Saturday's 15:00 kick-off, the Red Devils were en route to the venue when Masandawana supporters brought a stop to the bus.

However, it was not as drastic as last year, when Al Ahly visited Sundowns for a quarter-final clash.

Al Ahly has now released a statement confirming the incident.

"Mamelodi Sundowns' fans stopped the bus carrying Al Ahly's first team while en route to FNB Stadium for the game against Mamelodi Sundowns, scheduled at 3:00 PM, in the fourth fixture of the CAF Champions League group stage," read the statement as quoted by KickOff.

"The lack of organization and the shortage in the South African police officers, who are responsible to secure our journey to the stadium, caused a disruption.

"The head of our delegation to South Africa, Mohamed Shawky, the club’s board members, Hossam Ghaly and Tarek Kandil, and Sayed Abdelhafiz, the team's director of football, had to leave the bus to talk with the South African officials to open the barriers to avoid any delay.

"In the end, our team had to take another route to the stadium, which forced us to arrive late ahead of this important game."
