Philippe Clement reveals Rangers stance on goal difference as boss susses way for more after digging deeper

Philippe Clement revealed he has been focusing on set piece work in a bid to help Rangers find the net more - but insists he WON’T become obsessed with goal difference in the nip and tuck Scottish Premiership title battle.

John Souttar headed home from a corner for the Light Blues’ third goal in their 3-1 victory over Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday but Rangers were a goal short of going ahead of rivals Celtic at the top of the table for the first time in two years. Belgian boss Clement, speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to face St Johnstone in Perth, told how they have been working hard on set-pieces at the Rangers Training Centre this week but insists it isn’t linked to just coming up short in their bid to leapfrog the champions. He said: “I have been looking deeper into the set-pieces this week.

"We have been creating many chances resulting in many top saves and chances off the post. Can we do better? Absolutely. We look to improve in all areas.

“Goal difference is not considered until the last game. I push my players to score as many goals as possible every single game. I want us to take the maximum from every single game. There is no difference in approach now from four months ago.

“There is still much to become better at. We have three new players not long in the building. They still need to get used to playing with the team-mates as they step into our story. We also have several players returning from injury who are not at their top at the moment. I feel all the players can still become better with work.

“Away games are always special, different surfaces than Ibrox and against super motivated teams. It will be a hard game. The better a playing surface there is, the better the product becomes. Also, the better
