Philippe Clement lost sight of Rangers priorities amid Dundee pitch debacle as Ibrox boss told to 'take note'

Tony Docherty handled the Dundee pitch fiasco better than Philippe Clement and recent results prove it.

That's according to Dee legend Lee Wilkie, who has urged the Rangers boss to take notes on Docherty's approach. As the Rangers boss slammed the Dens Park club for a lack of communication and their inability to get their pitch playable in time to take on the Rangers, Docherty kept his head down and focused on the football.

And it was a weekend of contrasting fortunes for both bosses. Dundee's 0-0 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie was enough for them to claim the final top six spot, helped a lot by Motherwell's stoppage time leveller against Hibs. 24 hours later, while Rangers slipped to defeat against Ross County for the first time ever, handing the title initiative back to Celtic, who will remain top even if the Light Blues beat Dundee in midweek - if it finally goes ahead.

And Wilkie isn't having Clement's gripes about his players' preparation being affected. He insists that should remain the same right up until you know the game is a washout. He write in his Courier column: "Docherty certainly handled the whole pitch debacle better than his counterparts. Other managers haven’t handled it so well and you can see it in the results.

"Docherty kept the focus only on the football. He kept a distance between all the unimportant stuff, stuck to the stuff that really mattered – and got the job done. Other managers should take note. Philippe Clement even admitted in his post-match comments after losing at Ross County that the focus from Rangers had slipped.
