Philippe Clement faces Rangers fan backlash for 'humiliating' statement he made after Celtic drubbing

Philippe Clement has been slammed by Rangers fans after making reference to last week's 6-0 hammering of Ross County to deflect pressure around his own position in the wake of the dismal Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

The Belgian coach's wait for a victory in the fixture has stretched to five games after the Hoops coasted to a 3-0 win at Celtic Park on Sunday. Goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo and Callum McGregor have opened up a five point gap between the sides after four Premiership matches, with Aberdeen also ahead of the Gers by the same margin.

It has been a tumultuous start to the campaign on and off the pitch for the Light Blues, who also suffered a damaging loss over two legs to Dynamo Kiev in qualifying for the Champions League. When asked about the burning need to put a run of results together, Clement was quick to remind the media and fans alike of his side's handsome win against the Staggies last week, which was the first time Rangers had bagged six goals in a game since a 6-0 victory against Motherwell at the end of their league winning campaign in 2021.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, he said: "Yes but don't forget what happened last week. It was the best result in around four years for the club. It's not that black and white. It's maybe more dark grey but that's normal. I don't want to lose 3-0 but we need to take the right conclusion out of that and the right conclusion is that we should have made it 3-2 or 3-3 today by being more efficient.

"They had three shots on target and we had four shots on target. Ball possession was 47-53 per cent. There were a lot of things equal but not the result and it is about results in football. It's about having the quality to finish the job and those are things to work on in
