'Might well be...' - Phil Hay makes huge Patrick Bamford claim after big injury news emerges

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could miss the remainder of the 2021/22 season through injury, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The 28-year-old was arguably the Whites’ most important player last season, scoring 17 goals in their first year back in the Premier League since 2004.

Bamford has suffered a hugely frustrating campaign this time around, though, with only seven league starts coming his way amid numerous injuries.

The striker limped out of the recent 3-2 win at Wolves, and while it was hoped that the issue wasn’t serious, this isn’t the case at all.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday as he shared a piece from The Athletic, Hay confirmed that Bamford might not feature at all for the rest of the campaign because of the foot injury he has picked up:

This is an enormous blow for Leeds at such a critical point in the campaign, with relegation still very much possible and the Englishman their most reliable source of goals when he’s fit.

As Hay said, it is vital that Jesse Marsch’s side secured two dramatic wins over Norwich City and Wolves earlier this month – if not, Bamford’s absence would feel even worse than it already does.

The hope is that Leeds can still get by without him and secure their top-flight status before he returns fully fit next season, when hopefully he will remain injury-free after such a torrid 2021/22 campaign.
