Phil Foden's new Man City nickname and how it inspired Man United goal celebration

Manchester City's Phil Foden has been nicknamed "the sniper" by his teammates, following his impressive performance in the recent derby against Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford initially put United ahead with a brilliant goal in the first half, but Foden quickly responded with an equaliser after half-time. He then put City in the lead with a fantastic team goal, before Erling Haaland secured the win with a late goal. Gary Neville, who was commentating on the match, described Foden's equalising goal as "special". After the game, Foden's teammate Kyle Walker revealed the squad's nickname for him and explained how it inspired his goal celebration.

Walker praised Foden's performance this season as, telling Sky Sports: "This season he has been nothing short of first class. That is the standard he sets for himself and we set for him. It is the standard he needs to keep up now."

He added: "When he comes in on his left foot we call him the sniper because he likes to shoot. When he comes in on the left foot you know he has the calmness and composure to pick his spot. We lean on him.", reports The Mirror Online.

Walker emphasised the importance of players like Foden in winning games, saying: "We need important players like him because they help you win games. He puts the work in, he is always doing extra shooting. His goals are coming in, he is reaping the rewards and he needs to keep these standards up."

And Foden was thrilled with his performance in the big match. He said to Sky Sports, "That's my aim to turn up in the big games, that is what I want to do and this season I am proving that,".
