Phil Foden getting stick in Man City dressing room and insists team-mates 'don't understand'

Phil Foden has opened up about the ribbing he gets from his Manchester City team-mates for his passion for fishing.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who has been angling since childhood thanks to his father Phil Snr, often speaks of how the hobby provides a respite from the intensity of being one of City's key players. With Pep Guardiola's side currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 16 points, Foden has found solace in his favourite pastime during a challenging season.

The England star had a tough start to the campaign off the back of struggling personally at Euro 2024, having opened up on his battles with both physical and mental burnout. However, after netting six goals in January, Foden's form has seen a significant uptick, something he credits to the tranquillity fishing offers him.

In a chat with ex-Manchester United and Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video, Foden praised the serenity of fishing, despite admitting his colleagues are somewhat baffled by it.

"I just love the peace and quiet. There's something about it and it's my get away," Foden told Foster. "After a bad game, I like to go fishing, switch my phone off and not read too much. Then when I go back and train, it's just like a reset.

"None of them (team-mates) have been fishing with me, but I think John (Stones) is into it a little bit. I think it's really important to have something, whatever it is, to switch off. I've got fishing. Some of them do (give me banter), but they don't understand."
