Phil Foden draws Erling Haaland comparison with Man City strike in FA Cup win

Manchester City put in a ruthless second-half display to beat a tough Southampton side 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, but all everyone was taking about after the match was Phil Foden. City shrugged off a calamitous Aymeric Laporte own goal to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the fourth consecutive year, and Foden played a huge role.

The 21-year-old started on the bench at St Mary's with Pep Guardiola opting for a front three of Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus. Minutes after Kevin de Bruyne restored City's lead from the penalty spot, Pep turned to Foden to help sure up the result.

As is often the case with the young England star, Foden produced a moment of magic in an important game for his side. After laying the ball off to De Bruyne at the edge of the penalty area, Foden reacted quickest to a stray header by defender Mohammed Salisu by taking one touch and then arrowing a fierce effort into the top corner of Fraser Forster's goal.

It was the latest in a rapidly growing collection of Foden masterstrokes, an effort that took his goal tally for the season to 11 in all competitions. The man himself certainly enjoyed it, wheeling away in celebration chased by his teammates, while City fans on Twitter, as well as some neutrals, just couldn't get enough of the strike.
