Peterborough United director confirms interest in Hull City's League One promotion star
Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has confirmed the club’s interest in Hull City forward Mallik Wilks. Wilks has featured just once for the Tigers since a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in December in a six-minute cameo appearance from the bench against Posh.
The 23-year-old doesn’t appear to be in the plans of manager Shota Arveladze given his lack of involvement in recent weeks, meaning he could be someone the club look to sell in the summer. And former City boss Grant McCann, who Arveladze replaced in January, is looking to reunite with Wilks for a third time at Peterborough.
McCann first worked with the former Leeds United man at Doncaster Rovers in the 2018/19 season, where Wilks enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in senior football with 16 goals and 12 assists in all competitions. Wilks then earned a move to Championship side Barnsley in the summer but spent just six months at Oakwell as he linked back up with McCann again at the Tigers.
Hull were relegated to League One in Wilks’ first half a season at the club but bounced back immediately, with the forward a huge part of that. Wilks netted 19 goals and provided eight assists as City won the title.
But after he has struggled to make an impact back in the Championship with City, Wilks could be set to return to League One with Peterborough – who are on the verge of being relegated. Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, Fry discussed a potential summer transfer.
He said: “Wilks is a player Grant has mentioned, but that’s as far as it’s gone as yet. Obviously Grant knows the player well, but whether or not he would want to drop into League One is another matter as is whether or not we could afford his wages. The chairman is in the UK this
