Peter Lawwell Celtic transfer claims 'won't wash' with fans as pundit questions Rangers title gamble

Andy Walker reckons Peter Lawwell's Celtic January transfer window frustrations will NOT wash with fans.

The Hoops released their PLC report for the six months to December 2023 with the club boasting eye-watering figures. However, they only managed to recruit Nicolas Kuhn in a £3million deal from Rapid Vienna and the loan capture of Adam Idah from Norwich City on deadline day to add to Brendan Rodgers' ranks.

Lawwell conceded as part of his statement that Celtic DIDN'T do enough in the January window with the board left as frustrated by the winter window as the supporters. However, former striker Andy Walker doesn't believe his words will go down well with the fans and can't understand why they didn't bring in a player or two of known pedigree with the importance of beating Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title highlighted by the pundit.

Reacting to Celtic's financial results, Walker told Go Radio: "I don't think it will wash. I think Celtic had a month to realise first and foremost that Rangers were improving. They've got a manager that has made some remarkable strides in terms of improving individual players and as a team. Results are getting better and for too long now Celtic's form, play and standard of football has not been a joy to watch.

"You take these things to one side, of course Celtic have been well run for a number of years. The player trading model has been hugely successful and no one would deny that. But why are you taking a gamble on not strengthen with one or two players of some pedigree knowing that Rangers are improving and giving yourself the best possible chance to get this very important title, given what is at stake at the end of it.
