3 Celtic successors to Alexandro Bernabei with fans sweating over nightmare scenario as transfer exit nears

Celtic fans have been told they should be happy that Alexandro Bernabei is leaving - as it could open the door for young talent to land a first-team chance.

That is the view of Stephen McGinn - who insisted that Mitchel Frame could be called up from the B team in the Lowland League and be given a first-team chance. Bernabei will reportedly leave Celtic Park on loan for SC Internacional before the Brazilian transfer window closes having failed to challenge Greg Taylor for a starting spot at left-back following his £3.75m from Lanus in 2022.

Brendan Rodgers has handed the 23-year-old just nine appearances so far this season - but the Argentine was the only natural successor for Taylor on the left side of the defence should the Scotland international pick up a knock during the Scottish Premiership title fight with Rangers. But despite concerns from the Hoops' support they are now short of options Falkirk captain McGinn insists it is the right call to allow the misfit to leave.

He told Go Radio: “I’m happy that he is going. When I look at Alexandro Bernabei, and this seems really harsh, but I looked at what they scout in terms of a left back and you look at, first of all, the size. Immediately you point to the size and think he’s very, very small for a defender.

"Then you think he must be really talented on the ball. He’s very inconsistent on the ball. Sometimes he has a good cross, sometimes he doesn’t.

"The games he’s just played for Celtic the ball breaks down with him in possession quite a lot. He’s quick but he’s not super quick. He can’t defend his back post, he’s not good in the air as we’ve seen with the goal he lost recently.
