Pervert pensioner loses appeal after exposing himself to school girl as she got off bus

A pervert pensioner found guilty of exposing himself to a school girl has lost his appeal against his conviction.

Thomas Beattie, a former soldier, contested the finding made by a district judge last October but it has now further hit in the pocket. Although the conviction only related to one day a court heard how he was said to regularly strip naked to stand in his window when the school bus dropped off girls outside his home.

Beattie, of Crow Lane West, Newton-le-Willows, had also been found guilty by the lower court of causing the teenage girl to look at an image of sexual activity involving him showing her a photograph of his penis on his mobile phone. His appeal against that conviction was allowed at an earlier hearing on technical legal grounds.

Beattie, 72, was ordered by the judge, Recorder Ian Harris to pay £600 prosecution costs after losing the latest appeal hearing at Liverpool Crown Court. This is on top of the £528 costs already ordered against him by the lower court.

He still has a 20-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months hanging over him following the magistrates court trial. A ten-year restraining order was reduced to seven years in line with his registration period on the Sex Offenders Register.

The trial heard that in early March 2021, the mum of the girl reported to police that her daughter told her she had seen Beattie exposing himself from a front window on a number of occasions over the previous 12 months.

Her daughter told how on one day in the same month she got off the bus home from school at the stop opposite wasteland by his home.
