Perth's Dewars Centre plays successful host to European Junior Curling Tour event
The European Junior Curling Tour swept into Perth at the weekend - and organisers have hailed the event a great success.
Dewars Centre was chosen to host the tournament which, over three days of action, saw talented teams from Scotland as well as the continent battle for top honours.
Among the line-up on the renowned and respected Fair City ice were squads who had travelled over from Denmark and Norway.
Alan Hannah, one of the organisers, told the PA: “The event was a great success, and it is hoped we have created the foundations to host further events in the years to come with a larger number of teams participating from across Europe.
“It was especially pleasing to see many young curlers from Perth and Kinross taking part which is testament to the great work being done locally to develop junior curling at Dewars Centre.”
The girls’ event was won by Scotland’s junior champions Team Munro, whose ranks include local curlers Holly Wilkie-Milne and Laura Watt.
They are soon to have another crack at winning the World Junior Championships.
“Playing a competition in Perth is always special as it’s my home ice rink and I’ve grown up curling there,” said former Perth Academy student Wilkie-Milne.
“Winning the first ever Perth EJCT title is something really special to me. It’s so lovely to lift that trophy at my home rink and support the beginning of a fantastic event.”
Wilkie-Milne was complementarity of ice conditions and Perth’s pull in being able to host top competitions at European and world level.
“Perth is a fantastic venue for events, with great ice, facilities and atmosphere,” she said.
