Perth High School footballers enjoy Civic Reception celebration following Hampden heroics

Perth High School’s Hampden heroes were this week celebrated at a Civic Reception hosted by Perth and Kinross Council.

The successful students were crowned Scottish Schools’ Football Association Senior Shield winners at the national stadium last month.

A penalty shootout win against Holyrood Secondary School brought the trophy - a very large one at that - back to the Fair City.

And now the triumphant players, alongside coach Ross Robinson, have been honoured further thanks to a celebration in the Civic Hall at 2 High Street on Monday.

Perth and Kinross provost Xander McDade was among those to give his congratulations.

The team was presented with a framed photograph of the squad celebrating their victory on the Hampden pitch.

Hundreds of supporters from the region had made the journey through to Glasgow to cheer the squad on and their win captured the imagination of locals interested in football and not.

Provost McDade said: “It was a fantastic achievement to win the Scottish Senior Shield and it is something the players, coaching staff and supporters will always remember.

“We’re all tremendously proud of what the team have achieved and wanted to mark their success appropriately.”

It was only the second time Perth High School has lifted the Shield.

Striker Kacper Przeslica had put Perth High in front early in the first half of the Hampden final before Holyrood equalised with just 15 minutes remaining. The game went to penalties and it was the local lads who managed to edge the shootout 5-4, with Connor Scott holding his nerve to slot home the winning kick from 12 yards.
