Person dies as police swarm station and major Manchester rail line blocked - live updates

A major Manchester rail line has been blocked following the death of a person at Patricroft station. Services between Manchester Victoria and Newton-Le-Willows have been brought to a complete standstill this evening (October 3).

There is a huge emergency services presence at Patricroft station, near Eccles, with multiple police vehicles at the scene. Pictures from the scene show police cars lining the road along Green Lane, with services brought to a standstill.

Transpennine Express confirmed in a tweet that the emergency response was following a fatality. Rail replacement buses are currently being organised for those stranded on the line.

Those travelling on services from Manchester have been warned of severe delays or cancellations by Transport for Greater Manchester, as Northern Rail announced that train services running to and from Manchester and Liverpool stations will be cancelled, severely delayed or diverted.

Greater Manchester Police and British Transport Police have been approached for more information on this breaking incident.
