Pep Guardiola 'makes Joao Cancelo transfer decision' and other Man City rumours

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly decided Joao Cancelo will be leaving the club permanently this summer.

This week, Cancelo returned to the Etihad Stadium following his loan spell at Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old left for Bavaria on January's transfer deadline day as he searched for more first team football.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Cancelo made 21 appearances, scoring one goal and grabbing four assists in the process. One of these matches was against City in the Champions League and saw the Portuguese defender booed by sections of the home support.

Guardiola explained the boos were merely because he was playing against City but it would seem Blues' fans have seen the last of him in Manchester. According to The Athletic's Sam Lee on the Let Me Talk podcast, Cancelo is destined for a permanent exit.

He explained: "All I know is they’re not planning for him to be there [pre-season tour] at all. They don’t want him to be there at all.

"But I’m just thinking if it doesn’t get sorted in the next few weeks, it could be a bit awkward. I mean once they go to Japan they could say: ‘Stay behind to work on a transfer,’ but then if there is actually nothing, he’s doing nothing for like two weeks, then it’s a bit harder."

Elsewhere, Mundo Deportivo understands Arsenal and Juventus are interested in signing Aymeric Laporte this summer. The 29-year-old has two years remaining on his contract but speculation suggests he could be sold in this transfer window.
