Pep Guardiola contract decision timescale amid England job link and Man City reality

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City future is likely to be resolved sooner rather than later amid links to the England manager's job.

Guardiola is out of contract at the Etihad in the summer and club chiefs would love him to stay into a tenth year. It has been widely expected that the City chief will call time on his stay in Manchester in 2025 and links to the England job have intensified in recent days.

Interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley seems unlikely to be offered the job permanently but Guardiola says he is yet to make a decision on his future. Some clarity could be provided in the coming weeks as Manchester Evening News chief Manchester City writer Simon Bajkowski explains.

Speaking on the Talking City podcast, he said: "Pep was asked about his City future and whether he would take the England job. Pep said 'no, not decided anything.' He is still yet to decide at City where he is out of contract at the end of the season.

"England would make a lot of sense for a manager who would like to manage in international football and possibly be an international manager for what could be a historic World Cup in the United States and England would give him the chance of winning, and he wouldn't have the politics of say a Spain and I don't think he would get the pushback that he might get in other countries like Brazil. And he would be working with very talented players so a lot of reasons why it makes sense
