People pack the streets of Swansea to cheer on competitors in city's first Ironman 70.3 - live updates
People packed the streets of Swansea to cheer on competitors in the city's first Ironman event on Sunday, August 7. The event began at just before 7am with the first pro competitors diving into the water of the Prince of Wales dock to start their 1.2m swim.
The event follows a day after the Volvo 2022 World Triathlon Para Series which was also held in Swansea. You can see the best pictures from that here.
Double Olympic title winner Alistair Brownlee MBE was among the competitors on the start line. The event also includes a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run. Racers have a picturesque course boasting views across one of the most scenic parts of Wales, including Swansea Bay, Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula.
The swim began at 6.55am on Sunday morning where Andrew Horsfall Turner got out of the blocks quickly to lead. But on the bikes Brownlee was beginning to create a gap to second-placed Liam Lloyd shortly before 10am.
