Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Jordan Spieth hits terrifying shot from edge of 70 ft cliff

Golfers often live life on the edge but for Jordan Spieth this was legitimately the case as he attempted a shot from the edge of a 70 foot cliff still making par.

Spieth was participating in the Pebble Beach Pro-AM when he was met with the challenge of avoiding a one-shot penalty by taking a shot that mirrored many tense scenes in action films.

The 28-year-old Texan braved the enormity of the situation of which CBS analyst Colt Knost stated:

“This is a scary shot normally but this is downright terrifying right now”

Indeed it was a terrifying moment during the Pro-AM but despite the doubts from those in the CBS studio, the former world number one amazingly made par hitting his shot beyond the green.

And the American explained the situation and his feelings at the time:

 “It’s so weird because if you can normally see the ball, like I never had a situation where you can see a ball, get a swing on it, but you’re not going to play it.”

He continued,

“So it was just kind of weird because it was like, well if I can get a swing on it and I can hit it then why would I take a drop?”

“Like just whenever, you’re never over, I guess I saw a 65-foot cliff. So it’s an unusual situation. Normally if you’re walking into a hazard, you see a ball, you hit it out.

Spieth’s courage to take the shot came off and he went on to explain his delight:

“I’m just glad I made the par to make it worth it, because I don’t think I would have made par with a drop, but if I made bogey, it would have really not been worth it.
