Paul Scholes set for Old Trafford return as Manchester United decision made

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes will be making his Old Trafford return in September for the club's Legends match against Celtic.

The ex-England international, alongside former teammate Nicky Butt, was one of the first two names announced in Bryan Robson's Man United squad for the match which is raising money for the Manchester United Foundation.

Both Scholes and Butt were part of the United '99 Legends team that played against Bayern Munich's Legends team to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their treble-completing Champions League final win over the Bundesliga side in 1999 back in 2019 which was also raising money for the Manchester United Foundation.

Butt netted United's third of the afternoon in what ended as a 5-0 thrashing with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke, Louis Saha and David Beckham getting the other goals in Sir Alex Ferguson's most recent time in the Old Trafford dugout.

The Red Devils XI will face off against a Celtic XI managed by Paul Lambert at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 September, with more names to be announced in the run-up to the event.

The two clubs have shared a close relationship for a number of decades, despite only having encountered each other competitively four times with all four matches coming in the Champions League - United winning two, Celtic winning one and their last meeting being a 1-1 draw in 2008.

Despite that, many stars that have played for both clubs have chosen them for their testimonial match, including Roy Keane and Bryan McClair while Ryan Giggs and Robson
