Paul Scholes sends message to Paul Pogba ahead of Manchester United transfer exit

Paul Scholes has backed Paul Pogba to thrive away from Manchester United and establish himself as a ‘world-class’ player following a ‘disappointing’ spell at Old Trafford.

Much was expected of Pogba when he returned to United in an £89m move from Juventus in 2016, but the Frenchman has largely flattered to deceive.

The 29-year-old looks set to leave Old Trafford for a second time this summer and may have even played his last game for United after suffering a calf injury in last week’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Scholes has accused Pogba of ‘never learning as a footballer’ but believes he will flourish at his next club and could yet develop into the ‘world-class’ star he has always threatened to become.

Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus have all been linked with moves for Pogba, who was a key member of the France squad that won the World Cup in 2018.

Asked about Pogba’s imminent Manchester United exit, Scholes told talkSPORT: ‘I don’t know. I was there when he was a kid and this lad has got absolutely everything you would want in a footballer and a midfield player.

‘His physique, he can run. I just don’t think he’s ever learned as a footballer, he constantly seems to make the same mistakes over and over again.

‘It’s disappointing, it looks like he’s going to leave. He’ll go somewhere, a manager will get a grip of him, and I think he’ll do really well, as he did at Juventus.

‘For some reason, at United, it hasn’t worked out. It’s a big disappointment. You see what he does with France.

‘People view him the wrong way. He’s a nice lad, he wants to work and learn. I hope he goes on and does really well. We all know he’s got the ability and talent to be world class.’
