Paul Pogba told Ravel Morrison was 'by far' the better Manchester United prospect

Former Manchester United striker Quinton Fortune has admitted that former Reds youngster Ravel Morrison was better than Paul Pogba when making the grade at Old Trafford, insisting he was the "best player of that generation."

Morrison burst onto the scene at the same time as Jesse Lingard and Pogba and helped United win their last FA Youth Cup crown in 2011. He had made his first-team debut a few months earlier, stepping off the bench in a 3-2 League Cup victory over Wolves in October 2010.

The midfielder, who was blessed with terrific skill and ball control, was capturing the attentions of football-lovers across the world. He was considered as the next big-name star and his potential was off the scale.

However, he left United in January 2012 and joined West Ham United, who were a Championship club at the time. He was sent out on loan on three separate occasions by the Hammers, joining Birmingham City, Cardiff City and QPR, before leaving the London outfit on a permanent basis in 2015, joining Italian club Lazio.

Further loan spells, three of which were back in England, followed during his time at Lazio. He left the club on a permanent deal in 2019 and is now at Derby County, who signed him back in August on a one-year deal.

Despite impressing in what has been a difficult campaign for the Rams, Morrison's career has been a real fall from grace, considering what was expected of him when making the grade at United just over a decade ago. And for former Reds striker Fortune, who took up a coaching role with United's reserves at the time when Morrison was making a name for himself, it will have come as a huge surprise.
