Paul Pogba ban sees Juventus ramp up interest in Lewis Ferguson as Italian giants plan for life without superstar

Juventus are reportedly still interested in Lewis Ferguson as they look to replace Paul Pogba.

The French World Cup winner has been banned from football for four years after being found guilty of taking banned substances. The former Manchester United midfielder has confirmed he appealed the decision to CAS, but in the meantime won't be turning out for the Bianconeri as he fights to clear his name. Now the Italian giants' need for a new midfielder is even greater following the outcome.

Juve have a long standing interest in Ferguson, who has impressed since swapping Aberdeen for Bologna. He has become the highest scoring Scot in Serie A history and has been linked with a plethora of big clubs, including AC Milan, Nottingham Forest and Fulham. But Juventus are still keen to keep him in Italy, with sporting director Cristian Giuntoli having held "positive" talks with Fergusons agents, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.

Guintoli watched Ferguson against Lazio in person late last year, and the club have had representatives at Bologna games several times this season. Ferguson himself has stated he is happy with I Rossoblu, but does want to play for a bigger club at some point.

Agent Bill McMurdo confirmed earlier this month that Bologna had put the breaks on any january move, but that a summer switch could be more likely. He said: "Bologna told us that they would not allow Lewis to leave the club in January, they did not want to consider offers. And he was happy with this decision. Lewis and I are aware of the serious interest from other clubs and he will move in the future when the time is right for both him and Bologna.
