Paul Mullin suffers punctured lung following Nathan Bishop collision in Manchester United vs Wrexham friendly

Wrexham have confirmed striker Paul Mullin suffered a punctured lung during the pre-season game with Manchester United.

Mullin was left needing oxygen as he was forced off following a poor challenge by United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop in Wednesday morning's pre-season friendly.

The incident occurred when a long ball over the top of the defence caused issues for United and saw Mullin shrug off Johnny Evans and bear down on goal. Bishop raced out of his area and clattered into the Wrexham striker, leaving him in pain. The 23-year-old stopper was booked and could easily have seen red for the challenge.

Mullin stayed down and a number of physios came onto the pitch, while a stretcher was brought on as the forward was given oxygen. After a lengthy delay the frontman was able to sit up but he couldn't play any further part in proceedings.

Having scored a whopping 46 goals last season, Parkinson will understandably be concerned by the striker's injury. The Red Dragons' season begins on Saturday, August 5 when they host MK Dons at the Racecourse Ground. This game in North Wales will mark the club's first match in the Football League for 15 years having gained promotion from the National League last season.
