Paul Heckingbottom makes claim over Sheffield United’s transfer business

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has claimed to Yorkshire Live that the club have put the current transfer window to good use. 

So far the Blades have seen more departures than incomings at Bramall Lane, with the likes of Robin Olsen, Michael Verrips and Oliver Burke all moving on to Aston Villa, Fortuna Sittard and Millwall respectively as the squad was trimmed.

Whilst goalkeeper Adam Davies is the only new singing, having arrived from league rivals Stoke City earlier on this week as the club looked to add further competition for Wes Foderingham between the sticks.

Now Heckingbottom has given his views on the business that his side have conducted so far, as he stated the following:

“We knew that players might need to leave and would want to leave to get game time, which would suit us financially and in terms of if there were any loans go out.

“In terms of assets, we want our players to be performing well if they are not performing for us, so that was something we wanted to do but not at the expense of not having enough bodies in the building if there are injuries and any illnesses, things like that.”

The target now for the Blades is to allow any more fringe players to leave before the window is out in order to fine tune the squad.

Whilst they also remain in the market for a new defender, given the current lack of numbers that they have available at the back after various injuries were sustained.

The Verdict 

Sheffield United are still very much a work in progress under Heckingbottom but at the same time it is clear for everyone to see that they have made great progress and strides towards getting back to where they want to be.
