Patrick Vieira speaks out on Aaron Wan-Bissaka returning to Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira says Aaron Wan-Bissaka is ‘still loved’ at Crystal Palace following reports the south London club will attempt to re-sign the Manchester United defender this summer.

Wan-Bissaka left Selhurst Park to join United in a £50million deal in the summer of 2019 with hope he would become a long-term solution at right-back at Old Trafford.

His future at the club now looks uncertain however, with Ralf Rangnick favouring Diogo Dalot ahead of the Londoner this year.

While Wan-Bissaka has turned in some excellent defensive displays during his time at the club there are said to be concerns over his attacking output and offensive abilities.

Incoming permanent manager Erik ten Hag will have the final say on his future at United but if the Dutchman decides he is surplus to requirements, Palace are reportedly ready to step in.

Quizzed on those reports, Vieira refused to discuss any interest from the club, but did admit he remains highly thought of in south east London.

Asked about interest in Wan-Bissaka, the Crystal Palace boss said in a press conference: ‘I don’t want to make any comment, he’s a United player.

‘I know he came through the academy here and people love him for what he did for Crystal Palace, but he is a United player.’

The Athletic report Palace are considering a loan move for Wan-Bissaka with current options Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne both on the wrong side of 30.

Nathan Ferguson was tipped to be the long-term successor to Ward and Clyne, but persistent injuries have limited the 21-year-old to just eight minutes of senior football since his move from West Brom in 2020.
