Park taped off after 'serious sexual assault'

A park in Salford was taped off by police following reports of a 'serious sexual assault'.

Police were called to reports of the incident near to Barton Lane, Eccles, at about 8.55pm on Wednesday (January 24).

Pictures shared on social media showed a large section of nearby Patricroft Recreation Ground taped off this morning. The cordon has since been removed.

Officers have not provided any further details about the incident but say they are trying to 'ascertain the circumstances' surrounding it. No arrests have been made at this stage.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 8.55pm on Wednesday 24 January 2024, Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a serious sexual assault near to Barton Lane, Eccles.

"A scene remains in place while officers conduct their enquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this incident. No arrests have been made at this stage."
