Paris 2024: Fintan McCarthy and Mona McSharry close Games for Ireland

Fintan McCarthy and Mona McSharry performed flag-bearing duties as Team Ireland brought the curtain down on a hugely successful Olympic Games at Sunday evening's closing ceremony in Paris.

Cork rower McCarthy and Sligo swimmer McSharry - two of Ireland's eight medalists - led the Irish arm of the parade in the Stade de France.

Team Ireland are going home with seven medal-position finishes in all - four gold (McCarthy and partner Paul O'Donovan teamed up for their first-place finish) and three bronze.

McCarthy and O'Donovan took top spot in the men's lightweight double sculls. McSharry won the first Irish medal of the Games when she took bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Boxer Kellie Harrington (Dublin) and gymnast Rhys McClenaghan (Down) also took top spot in their respective disciplines. Harrington topped the women's 60kg division in the ring while McClenaghan dominated the men's pommel horse.

And of courser, swimmer Daniel Wiffen of Co Armagh took gold in the men's 800m and bronze in the 1500m.
