Paris 2024: Finn Lynch up to 15th in dinghy event, Eve McMahon drops to 17th

Ireland's Finn Lynch jumped up the leaderboard in the men's dinghy at Paris 2024 after two impressive displays at Marseille Marina.

Lynch occupied 25th spot overnight after finishing 26th and 22nd in Friday's races, but the 28-year-old improved to 15th overall on 75 net points after finishing 12th in race 5 and seventh in race 6 as rough seas and wind speeds of 15-17 knots prevailed.

Matt Wearn enjoys a commanding lead ahead of Sunday's races, with the Australian on 18 points. Great Britain's Michael Beckett on 40 points and Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus on 42 points are his nearest pursuers.

Lynch's compatriot Eve McMahon endured a more testing day on the inner trapezoid course.

McMahon began the day in 15th place after registering 21st- and 16th-place finishes on Friday, but dropped to 17th on 80 net points after three races off the coast of France's oldest city on Saturday.

The 20-year-old finished 22nd, 34th and 13th in races 4-6, although race 5 is a discard finish for points purposes.

Just as in the men's race, the leaderboard features a dominant leader, with Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands the star performer on 12 points. Denmark's Anne-Marie Rindom on 28 points and Hannah Snellgrove on 39 points currently fill the minor podium places.
