Pape Habib Gueye leaves Aberdeen FC as misfit shipped out on loan to Norway after six-figure summer switch

Aberdeen striker Pape Habib Gueye's brief stint in the Granite City looks to be over after the out-of-favour player secured a loan move back to Norway with Kristiansund Ballklubb.

The 24-year-old only arrived at Pittodrie last August as part of previous manager Barry Robson's summer rebuild, with the Reds shelling out £500,000 to bring him to the club from Belgian top flight side KV Kortrijk. But Gueye has failed to make an impact, making just eight appearances in all competitions to fall right down the pecking order behind Ester Sokler, Luis Duk Lopes and Aberdeen talisman Bojan Miovski.

Since the arrival of interim boss Neil Warnock at the end of January, Gueye has failed to get any more minutes, making the bench just once in the last four games. Veteran gaffer Warnock has explained his decision for allowing the forward to return to Norway, where he previously enjoyed a decent spell with Aalesunds FK between 2018 and 2020.

He said: “Pape needs to get out and play some regular football. “He’s done well in training since we’ve arrived but he needs to regain a bit of confidence and match sharpness, which will hopefully come by playing in a league where he has experience and for a manager that knows his capabilities.

“We hope he’ll then return to Pittodrie in the summer ready to make a real go of it and kick start his Aberdeen career.”
