Owen Hargreaves makes 'embarrassing' Manchester United comment after Bournemouth defeat

Owen Hargreaves has slammed Manchester United's 'embarrassing' performance in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.

United were well beaten by the Cherries on another abysmal day at Old Trafford. Dominic Solanke opened the scoring with a lovely finish inside four minutes, and quick-fire goals from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi settled the result midway through the second-half.

Dango Ouattara looked to have turned defeat into complete embarrassment for United but his goal was ruled out for a handball. Erik ten Hag's side rarely tested Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto and were booed off the pitch at full-time, with former midfielder Hargreaves pulling no punches in his analysis.

RATINGS: Martial and Fernandes poor in defeat to Bournemouth

“Listen to the boos, look at all the open seats," Hargreaves told Premier League Productions. "The fans have spoken. The performance was embarrassing and it has been like that all season.

“You have to praise a team [Bournemouth] that plays the right way with good attacking players. They deserve the praise. They played exceptionally today.”

Supporters made their feelings clear throughout the match at Old Trafford, with players leaving the pitch to a chorus of boos at both half-time and full-time. The atmosphere had been teetering on toxic from the moment Solanke opened the scoring.

Anthony Martial's substitution on 56 minutes was also loudly cheered by the home supporters, following another ineffective performance upfront. He has now started 21 Premier League matches without once completing a full 90 minutes.

United have now lost 11 matches across all competitions and failed to build on a promising win over Chelsea in midweek.
