Owen Beck Rangers and Celtic approach 'rejected' by Liverpool as ex-Dundee loan star in demand

Rangers have had an enquiry for Liverpool left-back Owen Beck rejected as the Ibrox club look to bolster their first team squad, according to a report.

The promising defender was recalled from his Dundee loan spell early because of injuries to Andrew Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimakas. Many thought it could just be a precautionary measure and Liverpool would dip into the January market for a replacement, however it is thought Beck will be handed an opportunity to impress. And boss Jurgen Klopp was adamant the youngster would stay put rather than be loaned out again.

That's scuppered Philippe Clement's plans to lure the 21-year-old towards Rangers, who deemed Beck good enough to be an immediate starter, according to The Times. The same report also claimed that their Glasgow rivals Celtic were also keen on landing the full-back.

Greg Taylor is Celtic’s main left-back since Alexandro Bernabei is completely frozen out while Rangers have changed between Borna Barisic, who is out of contract in the summer and Ridvan Yilmaz, who has been linked with an imminent exit, battling out for that position. Josh Doig is another name who has been mentioned.

Following his Anfield return, Beck took to X (formerly Twitter) and penned an emotional message. He wrote: “I just wanted to thank everyone at Dundee FC for making my time so special. The coaching staff, my team mates, the fans and everyone else who supported me during my time at the club. It was a great experience and one I will remember for the rest of my career. Dundee will always have a place in my heart and I wish you all the very best for the rest of the season.“

Celtic may turn to Estroli star Tiago Araujo although they could command a fee of around £4million.
