Over Half of Jakarta Formula E Race Tickets Sold to Fans Overseas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The vice managing director of Formula E Jakarta, Gunung Kartiko, in a press conference on Thursday revealed that the inaugural all-electric formula racing series set to be held in North Jakarta’s Ancol has attracted fans from other parts of the world.

“Those who bought the tickets are not just Indonesians, but over 50 percent of [the sold tickets] were purchased by people overseas,” said Gunung on May 19.

In the conference set at the Ancol Formula E Circuit, he said only 21 percent of the tickets were purchased by Indonesians and more than 50 percent of tickets were sold to foreign nationals, with most tickets purchased by racing fans from Japan (9.4 percent), Australia (9.1), the United States (6.1), the Philippines (6.1), India (6.1), Italy (6.1), and the United Kingdom (6.1).

Tickets were also purchased by fans from Malaysia, Turkey, Tunisia, Poland, Norway, and Argentine.

“The domination of foreigners is surely hoped to contribute to the country’s foreign exchange,” said Gunung.

The Ancol Formula E race slated for June 4 offered 1,050 VIP tickets which have been sold out. Meanwhile, 1,550 VVIP tickets are already 50 percent sold, while grandstand tickets are 70 percent sold from 10 thousand seating capacity.
