‘Outstanding’ - Fans hail Man City youngster Callum Doyle after U19 Euro success with England

Supporters have been hailing Man City defender Callum Doyle after he helped England beat Israel in the final of the under-19 European Championships in Slovakia.

The Young Lions defeated their opponents 3-1 in extra time thanks to goals from Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Ramsey but it was Doyle who had got the team back on level terms after going behind before half-time.

The 18-year-old bundled the ball home following a corner on 52 minutes to ignite the turnaround. He played a pivotal role at the other end of the pitch too, making several important blocks and clearing one off the line.

As a result, he and City colleague Liam Delap - who came on for the second half of extra time - both ended up lifting the trophy at the end of the night. Doyle’s success follows a promising season on loan at Sunderland.

The centre-half played 44 times, starting 34 of them, as the Black Cats won promotion back to the Championship via the play-offs. He will be eyeing more first-team action next season.

Sunderland supporters joined City fans in hailing Doyle, who are tipping him for big things in the future. Many on Twitter relayed their pride in the teenager after Friday night’s achievement.
