Liam Delap from Man City to Burnley: Is it a good potential move? Would he start? What does he offer?

Burnley have chipped into Vincent Kompany’s contacts at Manchester City already this summer and that’s a trend that could well continue between now and September’s transfer deadline. 

As Kompany looks to add some goals in the final third, The Athletic have noted how City favour a Championship loan for young striker, Liam Delap, which could bring Burnley into the conversation.

We breakdown Delap’s potential move to Burnley in three steps here:

You’ve got to say it is.

For City, they want Delap to go out on loan and play football regularly. They can trust Burnley and Kompany, whilst not uprooting the young striker in terms of his location.

Delap will relish heading out into the Championship and taking on a physical division, whilst looking to grow his reputation as a clinical striker.

As for Burnley, they need reinforcements in the final third. They’ve signed a host of defensive options, whilst also bringing in some midfielders.

Scott Twine is an exciting addition in the final third, but more needs to be done before September 1st.

Looking at Burnley’s squad as it is, there’s certainly room for that traditional No.9. Wout Weghorst has moved on this summer, having arrived in January as Chris Wood’s replacement.

Whilst Burnley are moving into a new era under Kompany, there’s the need for that focal point in the Championship, someone that will bring the best out of others like Ashley Barnes, Jay Rodriguez and even Twine, Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet – depending on the latter pair staying around, of course.

So, you’d think there would be plenty of starting opportunities for Delap if he was to make the move to Turf Moor.
