Ospreys come from behind to beat Cardiff in atrocious conditions

The Ospreys overturned a 13-point half-time deficit to overpower Cardiff and grind their way to a 27-21 bonus-point victory at the Brewery Field in Bridgend.

This was an entertaining and full-blooded tussle between the two strongest club sides in Wales but the game was played in atrocious conditions. The Ospreys decided to move the United Rugby Championship game in Bridgend due to Swansea City holding primacy of tenure at the Swansea.com Stadium meaning the game had to be moved due to a fixture clash.

There may have been a sell-out crowd at the Brewery Field which created a red-hot atmosphere but the facilities were not up to the standard one would expect for a professional rugby match.

Nevertheless there was plenty of entertainment on the field as the Ospreys came back from the brink to end the festive period unbeaten.

Despite the conditions and the horrendous pitch the skillsets of the players was of a high standard with both sides looking to put the ball through the hands. It was the Ospreys who started the stronger of the two with the home side's first scrum sending Cardiff backwards at a rate of knots to win a penalty.

The Ospreys made Cardiff pay within the first 10 minutes with a well-worked try. After recycling the ball quickly from a ruck Jack Walsh drew in Rey Lee-lo before beautifully offloading from the point of contact. Iestyn Hopkins received the ball before finding George North who released Keelan Giles down the touchline whose speed allowed the 25-year-old to cross for the Ospreys' opening try.
