Opinion: The week ahead could decide if Celtic make £6.5m deal a reality

It seems that the next seven days will tell us a lot about the future of Celtic loanee Jota.

The on-loan Benfica winger was a revelation in his season at Celtic Park, as he helped the Hoops win a Premiership and Premier Sports Cup double.

Celtic are keen to get the player to commit his future to the club on a permanent basis, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Hoops are set to have talks with the player to complete a deal which would be worth £6.5m, and promisingly, the report states that the winger is keen to stay in Glasgow.

Interestingly, Portuguese sports website A BOLA claims that Jota’s move to Celtic is ‘practically confirmed’, which could well be an indication that a transfer may be announced sooner rather than later.

It seems that we will find out about Jota’s plans for the future sooner rather than later, maybe if his discussions with the Hoops go well.

£6.5m might be a lot of money for Celtic to pay, but it will be worth it for the 23-year-old, who is a big reason why the Hoops were so successful in season 2021/22.

He scored 13 goals and contributed 14 assists in 40 games, which is a very impressive total, especially when you consider that he didn’t join the Hoops until towards the end of the summer transfer window. That didn’t stop the player from hitting the ground running, which is the measure of just how good a performer Jota is.

The supporters seem to have took to Jota as well, and he is firmly a fan favourite at Celtic Park, which is understandable, as he is an exciting player that gets the fans off their seats with some exciting attacking play.

Celtic are in a good place at the moment, having been crowned champions of Scotland and guaranteeing a place in the Champions League group stages.
