Opinion: Nottingham Forest midfielder has earned the chance to prove himself at Manchester United

As exclusively revealed by Football League World earlier this week, Garner is set to be given a chance to prove himself at Manchester United next season.

New manager Erik ten Hag will take over as the next permanent boss of the team this summer, replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian moved Garner out on loan to Nottingham Forest in January 2021 where he played well with the Reds.

Another stint at Forest was eventually agreed for the entirety of this season.

The midfielder has come on leaps and bounds since the arrival of Steve Cooper in September.

Garner is now one of the team’s most important players and has proven himself capable of holding his own against Premier League opposition during the team’s FA Cup run this campaign.

The 21-year old has done more than enough to stake a claim in United’s team for next season.

Considering the issues the club have had in that position, it is particularly obvious that he deserves a chance to show the United hierarchy what he can do.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are both set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, which would leave just Scott McTominay and Fred as options in the centre of the pitch for the Red Devils.

It is an area that needs significant strengthening, and ESPN have reported that it is a priority to add at least one midfielder to the team this summer.

Given the overall need to improve the squad in various positions, Garner may find himself in the right place at the right time.

A striker is also noted as a priority position, with a transfer budget of between £100 and £150 million to spend this summer.

That means it could be difficult for United, known for splashing the cash on big-name signings, to improve both in midfield and attack.
